Tested for several months in Latin America and launched yesterday in the United States, a new feature now allows you to activate WhatsApp as a messaging app on your Google Business Profile. SMS is also available as an option. This new feature is expected to arrive soon in Europe: here’s everything you need to know!
To activate WhatsApp on your Google Business Profile you have to go to the Contact tab of your business profile and head to the Chat section. This is where you can select the best way to contact your business.
The two currently available options are WhatsApp and SMS.
Then click on Save to confirm the contact method.
The integration of WhatsApp is just the latest step in Google’s move towards opening up to external platforms. The company has already integrated third-party review platforms and links to social profiles in Google listings.
Since Google announced the deactivation of its internal chat, we at Partoo were certain that the American company would move to integrate external messaging platforms. The arrival of WhatsApp Business confirms this, and we do not exclude that Facebook Messenger could be next.
Note: The field to add your WhatsApp phone number is already available in the Google Business Profile API and, therefore, on Partoo; however, the contact button is not yet visible on Google profiles—patience is required!
